As the Chief of Staff for Multi-Domain Joint Operations, you will provide support and advice to the (Senior Executive Service) Director for Multi-Domain Joint Operations (MDJO) under the Deputy Chief Technology Officer for Mission Capabilities (DCTO(MC)) within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)).  The mission of MDJO is to identify and transition technologies that close time-critical gaps in high-priority, multi-component warfighting missions.

Work locations are in the DC metropolitan area with opportunities for situational telework.

Primary responsibilities are to:

  • Manage daily operations and organization-wide initiatives.
  • Coordinate and integrate activities across the organization.
  • Provide organizational, technical, operational, and managerial advice to MDJO and OUSD(R&E) leadership.
  • Research and gather information to support executive-level tasking.
  • Prepare executive-level briefings and reports for DoD leadership and Congress.
  • Proactively engage with senior executives, action officers, and other stakeholders.


  • At least 15 years of experience supporting the DoD and/or IC.
  • Experience as a Chief of Staff or similar role coordinating and integrating activities for a DoD organization.
  • Experience providing organizational, technical, operational, and/or managerial advice.
  • Experience researching and gathering information to support executive tasking.
  • Experience in interacting with staff and other offices as part of executive level tasking.
  • Experience in compiling, consolidating, and tracking information for executives.
  • Expert in developing briefings, documents, reports, and correspondence for senior executives.
  • Executive presence with highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop high-quality, professional briefings and written reports to succinctly capture key issues for DoD decision-makers and Congress.
  • Self-starter, able to take initiative and accomplish work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Must be highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the OUSD(R&E) and DARPA organizations, roles, and responsibilities is desired.
  • OSD, Joint Staff, and/or Service Staff experience is desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP).
