Responsibilities:

Model Based System Engineers will provide modeling and engineering support to the MDA for Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) development as part of enterprise architecture.   This position provides Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) support to enhance the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) enterprise architecture. The MBSE modeler works with MDA engineers to capture system behavior and structure, and to explore potential improvements to the system. The position participates in the development of a system-of-systems architecture model, ensuring M&S requirements drive an integrated (System-level) M&S capability.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform analysis at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies
  • Support analysis of BMD governance documents for periodic updates

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline
  • 3 - 15 years directly related experience. Additional relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering experience with M&S systems and their uses
  • Practical experience with MBSE (SysML) (not just UML)
  • Experience with MBSE tools (eg EA Sparx, IBM Rhapsody, Magic Draw) integrated with requirements management tools (eg DOORs) and CM tools (eg SVN, Clearcase)
  • Prior experience supporting development of technical publications
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a group
  • Ability to effectively participate and collaborate with functionally and geographically diverse teams of engineering professionals with differing perspectives, skills, and backgrounds
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders and non-MBSE trained people, both in written and spoken forms
  • Ability to provide significant contribution in the areas of creative thinking, problem solving, analytical thinking, strategic thinking and out-of-the-box thinking
  • Energetic, motivated, self-starting

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of the BMD system implementation
  • Previous experience in any of the BMD subcomponents activities
  • Experience working with systems-of-systems or family-of-systems, preferably in a DoD context
  • Experience in the use and analysis of M&S data for complex systems, preferable for the BMDS
  • Ability to lead functionally and geographically dispersed teams of engineering professionals with differing perspectives, skills, and backgrounds

Clearance Requirements:

Active secret clearance required.
