Note, this is a remote position however, candidate must reside in Huntsville, Alabama, Dayton, Ohio, Alexandria Virginia or Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Responsibilities:

Position Overview

The Data Management Specialist (DG/DQ) is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of data governance and data quality initiatives across the organization. This role focuses on ensuring that organizational data is governed and is of high quality, providing a strong foundation for business processes and decision-making. The Specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, business units, and leadership, to identify data quality issues, propose improvements, and enforce data governance policies.

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Data Governance Implementation:
    • Assist in developing and maintaining data governance policies, processes, and frameworks.
    • Collaborate with Process Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Managers to ensure compliance with data governance standards.
    • Support the development of data governance metrics and KPIs to measure adherence and effectiveness.
  • Data Quality Management:
    • Conduct data quality assessments and profiling to identify data integrity issues.
    • Collaborate with Data Stewards and IT teams to resolve data quality issues through remediation plans and corrective actions.
    • Help design and implement data validation and verification processes.
    • Assist in the creation and maintenance of a data quality dashboard to track key quality metrics.
  • Data Documentation and Metadata Management:
    • Support the development and maintenance of a data catalog and data dictionary.
    • Document business rules and definitions related to key data elements across the organization.
    • Ensure proper metadata management and documentation of data lineage to improve transparency and usability of data assets.
    • Work with business stakeholders to define appropriate capture, usage, and data quality business rules for business data elements. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Training:
    • Work closely with business and technical stakeholders to ensure alignment on data governance and quality goals.
    • Provide training and support to Data Stewards, business users, and technical teams on data governance practices and quality standards.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve data management processes.
    • Propose and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving data accuracy, consistency, and availability.
    • Participate in Agile sprint sessions related to data governance and quality use cases.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in data management, information systems, computer science, business, or a related field with 5+ years experience.

Required Skills:

  • Certification in Data related to data governance/quality (e.g., DCAM, DAMA).
  • Continuous Improvement, LEAN, Agile, or other experience in work process management and optimization is a plus.
  • Experience with data modeling, analysis, and visualization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex data insights clearly.
  • Familiarity with data architecture and data modeling.
  • Experience working in regulated industries, such as Defense, Healthcare, or Finance.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Clearance:

Must have an Active Secret Clearance: US citizenship required.
